Subproject B02 — Architectural security concepts
3. funding stage (2022-2025)
The street is one of the places where most of the social tensions of the nascent metropolises have become particularly evident since the late 18th century: They strain the sense of hearing, sight and smell, and often become manifest in physical distress because of the spacial delimitations of the common space of movement.
The street is also the site of political conflict, of revolutionary protest, barricades and terrorists attacks. The art-historical subproject is dedicated to the pictorial and visual aspects of the "street“ and its media using the example of urban agglomerations such as Paris, London, Berlin, Vienna and New York up to the beginning of the 20th century. Central topics concentrate on questions of circulation and social space, urban development as an instrument of order and the street as a political space of action..
