Concept group 4: Power Dynamics of Security
first funding stage (2014-2017)
This concept group focusses on the power dynamics of (de)securitization and probes conceptual and theoretical implications of the different notions of securitization currently under discussion. One aim is to reconstruct different notions of power that underlie contemporary theorizing on securitization, with particular respect to the speech-act theoretical contributions of the Copenhagen School, the more practice-oriented direction suggested by the Paris School, and the emphasis on emancipation advocated by the Welsh School. Furthermore, the members of the concept group reflect upon theoretical and conceptual issues of the power of securitization against the background of case studies from European history, ranging from the Medieval to the 21st century.
