Qualification Programme
The qualification programme of the IGS provides a central basis for joint work, interdisciplinary exchange and discussion of research projects among the PhD students. The core of this is the interdisciplinary colloquium on historical security research, which takes place three times per semester in the form of block events. In addition, the IGS summer school, which lasts several days, is devoted primarily to the theoretical and conceptual foundations of the SFB/TRR and historical security research, accompanied by keynote lectures, intensive discussions and numerous opportunities for exchange with the overall members of the SFB. Another important component of the compulsory programme are the Master Classes, which offer doctoral researchers the opportunity to discuss the conceptual and theoretical content of their research projects with internationally renowned experts from the respective fields. Participation in a thematically relevant international summer school or international conference completes the obligatory part of the IGS qualification programme. Based on the perspective and individual needs of the career aspired to after the doctorate, it is also incumbent on the PhD students to take an elective element within their eight-semester activity at the SFB/TRR that serves the development of science-related competencies and additional qualifications. The IGS supports doctoral researchers in their choice of elective element with the aim of obtaining and making use of the most suitable offers possible for individual career planning, skills acquisition and profile building in close cooperation with the existing graduate centres and cooperation partners of the SFB/TRR in Marburg and Giessen.
